 ctober on the Mapuche peoples struggle to take back their ancestral lands\
 nfrom vast industrial eucalyptus and pine plantations developed under the 
 Pinochet dictatorship.\n\nRecovering their land is part of the larger effo
 rt of Mapuche people to reclaim their culture\, spirituality\nand language
 \, as well as food sovereignty for their communities.\n\nA new law makes M
 apuche land recovery efforts illegal\, and people who try to claim land or
  grow crops\nrisk arrest or imprisonment. Biofuelwatch co-Director Gary Hu
 ghes will speak about the unique\nconnection between California and Chile.
 \n\nThis event is also the West Coast Book Launch for Portraits of Struggl
 e by longtime movement\nphotojournalist Orin Langelle. Langelle’s captiv
 ating images document interconnected global struggles\nfor environmental\,
  social\, and economic justice across six continents and five decades.\n\n
