A Time for Everything. That’s what it says in Ecclesiastes… “a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak.” There are times in life, and times in America, when we are called to make “good trouble” in the words of the late Congressman, John Lewis. And as we learned in the Civil Rights movements of the 60’s and 70’s, this is not something to be taken lightly – or alone. Join us as we explore the religious dimensions of moral courage, the importance of non-violent protest, and the long history of fighting for something greater than oneself. “God has no children whose rights may be safely trampled on” – Frederick Douglass
Mary MacKay is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist and longtime member of Live Oak UU in Alameda and First UU in Honolulu. She has preached regularly at both for many years. Mary is a retired Geologist and an amused observer and grateful participant in being human and is happiest when wandering the Bay Area hills. She thinks the arc of the moral universe is very long and does not bend towards justice on its own – but takes all of us, every day, in ways large and small.
