“Marching” Photography by James Lerager

In Donald Trump’s first inaugural address, he called out ‘American carnage’. Between 2017
and 2020, and now again since 2025, he is implementing carnage through ICE and so many
other illegal, unconstitutional polices. During his first presidency millions of Americans joined
in Marching together – powerfully – in Women’s, Environment, and other Marches. Since
January 2025 even more millions have joined No Kings Marches and hundreds of other
actions across the country. James has photographed Marches in Oakland and San Francisco,
gathering Marching images into extended photo-essays.

All these Marches are acts of passion. The Marchers are energized, enthusiastic, as they
voice and display their opposition to the orange apparition, his MAGA minions and
administrators, who are haunting the United States. Many Marchers have never before
participated in demonstrations. They are expressing their solidarity in resisting Donald
Trump’s apocalyptic proclamations, echoed by his MAGA acolytes.

In Marching and choosing to act, to organize, we renew our own communities. We display our
deep caring for our peoples, our lands, our futures. We March, act, and organize from love
and our belief in the power of non-violent connection – inspiring us to act together. Coalition
building is interwoven in these Marches.
